Pet Resources

The Oklahoma Humane Society seeks to enrich the communities it serves by promoting the well-being of animals. Keeping pets and their people together is an important step in reducing euthanasia of healthy adoptable pets in local shelters. If you are struggling with training, behavior issues, or crisis, saying goodbye to a beloved pet may not be your only option. See below for resources for guidance.

What To Do When You Find A Pet

  • Did you find a kitten outside?

It can be very tempting to take in a lonesome kitten or kittens that you’ve found outside. However, without a plan in place, that can actually be harmful to the kitten(s). Mom is ultimately the best caregiver for them, so it is best to first try and wait to see if she returns to care for them. If mom has not returned after waiting for a few hours, next steps may be taken by humans to ensure they are cared for. Please take a look at the guides below for further information about what to do when you’ve found a kitten and would like to help!

Lost/Found Pet Tips

  • If you have found or lost a pet, consider posting the pet at Petco Love Lost, on local social media pages for lost and found pets, and with your local animal welfare (OKC residents Click Here).
  • For OKC residents, call (405) 297-2255 to report a stray or loose dog. Click Here for more info.

Re-Homing Pets

  • The Oklahoma Humane Society focuses its mission on homeless animals at Oklahoma City Animal Welfare and other local shelters. We are currently only accepting personal pets from the public on an extremely limited basis. Rarely, we are able to assess animals for our programs from the public (mostly puppies and kittens under the age of 6 months).  If we accept a pet into our program, the fee is $60 per pet and/or $60 + $10 per pet after two pets. If you are looking to return a pet you previously adopted from us, please call our Adoption Center to schedule a return at (405) 286-1229 ext. 1 option 1. We do not charge a re-homing fee for pets being returned to our program. Click Here for more information about re-homing your pet.
